Ask a question about this product

Esso Firexx HF-DR EHC is a premium quality phosphate ester type fire-resistant hydraulic fluid. Its fire resistance derives from its phosphate ester chemical structure and although it can be ignited it is self-extinguishing when the source of ignition is removed. It is designated as an ISO fluid type HFD. Firexx HF-DR EHC has excellent resistance to oxidation and gives long service life without the formation of deleterious sludge's. It offers good antiwear protection for high-pressure hydraulic pumps and is very resistant to shear so that it retains its viscosity throughout its service life. It resists foaming and separates readily from water and provides good long-term rust protection.

Firexx HF-DR EHC is suitable for use in hydraulic systems where a high degree of fire resistance is required. This product is well established in a wide variety of metallurgical industry applications. Firexx HF-DR EHC also meets the requirements for fine tolerance, high-pressure governor systems of steam turbine generators.

Features and Benefits

Firexx HF-DR EHC is a member of the Esso brand of FIREXX fire resistant hydraulic fluids products, recognised for their high quality and reliability, as well as performance capabilities in tough conditions. This family of products is manufactured to the strictest quality standards.

Firexx HF-DR-EHC offers the following advantages:

  • Excellent fire resistance for enhanced safety in fire hazard applications.
  • Low vapour pressure and good thermal stability at high temperatures for excellent lubrication and equipment protection at high temperatures.
  • Excellent corrosion protection, equivalent to mineral oils and far superior to water-based products for reduced maintenance costs.
  • Low resistivity, air release and demulsibility properties, meeting the requirements for electro-hydraulic control systems for steam turbines.
  • Lubrication properties similar to mineral products, and superior to water-based products providing reduced equipment replacement costs
  • Manufactured under our stringent Product Quality Manangement System (PQMS) quality control standards

Applications

When changing over from the use of mineral hydraulic oil to a phosphate ester fluid, such as Firexx HF-DR EHC, certain precautions must be taken. All the mineral oil in the system should be removed. Seal materials should be replaced with materials resistant to phosphate esters such as Viton or Butyl. Internal surface coatings should be removed, unless they are of the epoxy resin type. Water-glycol and emulsion-type fluids are not compatible with Firexx HF-DR EHC. Systems must be thoroughly drained and flushed before installing a new charge of Firexx HF-DR EHC.

Esso Firexx HF-DR EHC is widely used in metallurgical industries and in steam turbine governor applications, which require a high level of fire resistance, along with good lubrication properties.

Specific applications include:

  • Aluminium die casting machines.
  • Tilting systems of cast iron induction melting furnaces.
  • Various steel industry applications where fire hazard is a key concern.
  • Electo-hydraulic control systems of steam turbines for power generation and industrial applications.
